LFACC receives over 5,000 animals every year from Fayette County and our staff works tirelessly to reunite lost animals with their worried owners. If you have lost or found a pet in the community, please review all of the LFACC service information below, including the section detailing our new online search feature which will help make even more happy reunions possible.
IF YOUR PET BECOMES LOST, WE SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING:
1. Visit LFACC to look for your lost pet. Unfortunately, we are not able to identify your pet over the phone, you must see/identify the pet in person. If you do not see your pet in our care, our staff will gladly check our “found” reports and file a “lost” report in our system that will display online.
- LFACC is located at 1600 Old Frankfort Pike (exit 6 off New Circle Road)
- By law, stray dogs/livestock/fowl are held for 5 days and cats are held for 3 days (Reference Ord. 4-21.a)
- Lost and Found Office Hours:
- Stray or “found” animal intake hours: Monday-Saturday 12 pm.- 6 pm., Sunday Closed.
- Lost pet facility walk-through hours: Monday-Saturday 12 pm – 6 pm., Sunday Closed.
- What to Bring With You:
- A current photo ID (such as a driver’s license or state issued ID card)
- Please bring with you any recent veterinary records, a picture of you with your pet, and/or a picture on your phone/camera of your pet
- Bring proof of your pet’s current rabies vaccination (we will need to see the actual rabies certificate not just the tag), city license, and spay/neuter (if applicable)
- All animals must leave our facility on a collar and leash or in a carrier
- Redemption Fees:
- All LFACC impounded or seized animals are subject to fees mandated by local ordinance (Ord. 4-21.c, d) or (Ord. 4-9.c) which can be paid by cash, Visa or Mastercard(we cannot accept American Express or Discover)
- Fees are based on the number of calendar days boarded, spay/neuter status, and rabies vaccination/license status
- Reference Ord. 4-12.3: dogs, cats, and ferrets over 4 months of age must be current on rabies vaccination; dogs and cats over 6 months of age must be current on city license (proof is required). If the animal does not have a current rabies vaccination or city license, the missing legal requirement(s) will be issued during the reclaim process. If an animal has not been spayed or neutered, the option to have the animal altered is available, which will reduce the redemption fees. All redemption fees and reclaim processes must be completed before the animal can be altered.

- Put signs in appropriate places around the neighborhood, at local veterinary clinics, local grocery stores, in any nearby businesses (with permission), and in areas where your pet was last seen
- Include a color photo and description of your pet, your phone number, and when your pet disappeared
- Print a lost pet flyer
- Place an ad on Craigslist in both the “Lost and Found” AND “Pets” sections, include pictures
- Important Tip: For your lost pet ads, leave out one identifying feature in your pet’s description, such as a splotch of color on the nose or a surgery scar
- Notify your friends via social media and ask them to share the information
- Call your veterinarian and other vet offices nearby to inform them that your pet is missing
- Walk, bike, drive, or jog through your neighborhood calling your pet’s name at least once daily
- Place clothing, toys, litter box, and other items familiar to your pet outside in your yard where he/she might smell them—put food out at normal meal times and provide water at all times
- Ask your mail person, newspaper delivery person, and anyone who travels throughout your area regularly on business to look out for your pet
- Check “Found Pet” ads in the newspaper and on Craigslist daily

HOW TO SEARCH THE ONLINE LISTING:
If your pet is missing, please click on the link titled “Found Animals,” which displays animals being held in our facility as well as animals reported as found by the public and not in our facility. To search the listing, click on the blue chevron next to Pet Type (select “dog and puppy” if you are missing a canine, or select “cat and kitten” if you are missing a feline) and then click “Find Animals.”

IF YOU SEE YOUR LOST PET LISTED:
Contact LFACC Animal Services Department at (859) 255-9033 x 233 to see if the animal is impounded in our facility. Please note the Animal Services Department can be very busy and you may need to leave a message. Be sure to provide the animal’s ID number (from your search below), your name, and your contact information. Your message will be returned by the following business day. If the animal is impounded, you must visit LFACC to identify your pet in person. Prompt contact is very important as stray animals are held for a limited amount of time and boarding fees increase daily.
If you do not see your lost pet listed, please do not give up! Not all animals in our care display on the online listing. Also, the breed and description might be different from what you expect. This is why it is extremely important you visit our facility in person as soon as possible and on a regular basis to search for a lost pet.

Be sure to provide the animal’s ID number (from your search below), your name, and your contact information. Your message will be returned by the following business day. LFACC will provide contact information for the owner who filed the lost report.
If you do not see the pet you found listed, please bring the pet to our facility so we can scan for a microchip and take a photo for the found report. We will review our lost reports in detail as the breed and description we assign might be different from what the worried owner told us. Note: If you cannot make it out to LFACC, you can take the pet to a local veterinary clinic to have it scanned for a microchip.
