Pomeroy Bats Show Up in Game 2 Win

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind.–SMWC went 1-1 today on a tough battle with conference opponent Oakland City dropping the first game 4-2 in 8 innings and dominating the second game 10-1 in 6 innings. The Pomeroys battled behind two freshman pitchers, Gracie Ables (1 run, 3 hits, 3 BB, 2 K) and Gracie Ansari (3 runs, 6 hits, no walks, 1 K), both tossing 4 innings of work. After 7 competitive innings tied at 2-2, the Pomeroys could not find the hit they needed after having bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Pomeroys were led by Lyric Krause and Jasey Conn with 2 hits and 1 RBI each in the first game.

In game 2 the Pomeroys came out with a chip on their shoulder knocking in 10 runs in 6 quick innings. Summer Rocha, who is USCAA pitcher of the week, received the ball for game 2 and was nothing short of spectacular as she has been all season thus far. Rocha threw 6 nearly flawless innings as she gave up 1 hit, 1 walk, 4 K's and 0 ER in her time on the rubber. 7 Pomeroys raked in a hit in the match-up as they were led by Cam Scott (3-4, 1 double, 3 runs, 1 RBI, 1 SB), Jasey Conn (2-4, 1 double,1 RBI, 1 SB), Lyric Krause (2-3, 2 doubles, 1 run, 2 RBI) as well as freshman Tori Lee knocking her 2nd HR of the season clearing the scoreboard today. Coach Walker said, "I was really happy to see the girls bounce back the way they did in game 2 after losing game 1 in extra innings." Summer Rocha followed with "I believe that today we figured out how to pick up the intensity after a loss and the importance of coming out hot and ready to play. Overall, we played well, and our hitting definitely picked up in the second game. As an individual, every game I become a little bit stronger and more knowledgeable about the game, but this is only the beginning for us as a program."
