Liquid Force Quest

The Liquid Force Quest Wakesurf Board is surely made for deep space exploration. This is a surfer made for that comic book Silver guy, a board with otherwordly performance. Jack Mace

I grew up on the north end of Lake Washington and was surrounded by watersports enthusiasts who all had an immense passion for any activity done on the water. My dad has also worked in the boating industry my whole life, so those two factors were the main building blocks that shaped my love for the industry from a young age.

After attending Western Washington University, I moved back to the Seattle area and worked as a sailing instructor for a number of years at my cousin’s rental shop on Lake Union before joining the evo family in 2012.

At evo, I started out on the customer service team and worked my way onto the merchandising team which gave me the opportunity to integrate my passion and love for the water into a career as the Watersports Buyer. I still reside in the Seattle area with my wife Katie and two sons, Wes and Carter.

Boat speed for wakesurfing will vary with the make and model of boat, and the amount of ballast, but usually good waves form around 10 mph and professional surfers will cap out around 12.5. Skim-style boards perform best at about 1.5 mph slower than surf-style boards.

What is the perfect Wakesurfing speed? ›

The Ronix Koal Fish is a classic wakesurf board and one of the longest-running boards. It has a versatile shape, clean bottom, fast rocker line, and smooth rails for a fun ride. Riders at all experience levels can use the Ronix Koal Fish because of its ease of use and stability.

Which wakesurf board is best suited for beginning wakesurfers at mbac? ›

Wakesurfers at MBAC

With a full, round shape and quad fin set up, the Liquid Force Happy Pill is stable yet snappy and maneuverable. This is a really forgiving and fun board and is our go-to board for beginners.

What prop is best for wakesurfing? ›

A lower numerical pitch number means higher engine RPMs relative to boat speed, which is translates to better performance for slower speed activities. A lower pitch prop will perform better for wakesurfing and wakeboarding than for high speed activities such as slalom skiing and barefooting.

What is the best water depth for wakesurfing? ›

Water Depth

It's best to wakesurf in at least 12 feet of water. More is better. When you have less water underneath you, the boat will not generate a fully formed wave.

How do I get more push from surf wave? ›

To increase the height of the surf wave, add more ballast to the rear of the boat. This digs the back end of the boat further down into the water, resulting in more displacement (which in turn increases the wave height). The more height you add to your wave, the less length and push it will have.

How much weight do you need to wake surf? ›

If the wake feels long and like your having to fight to keep up with the boat, add more lean or weight to the back of the boat to give the wake more push. The bigger your boat is, the more aftermarket ballast you will need. On most 20-22ft V-Drive wakeboard boats, adding 1500 - 2500 is ideal.

What's harder wakeboarding or wakesurfing? ›

Boat Differences with Wakeboarding and Wake Surfing

Wakeboarding typically requires a faster boat speed to get enough air to do tricks, while wake surfing can be done at slower speeds. This is because you're not trying to get air off the wake with wake surfing, so you don't need as much speed.

Should I wax my wakesurf board? ›

Why Wax Your Board? Wakesurf board traction pads can get heavy, clumsy and may even slip. Keep your feet where you want them and enjoy greater freedom and versatility with a coat of performance wax.

Is wakesurfing a good workout? ›

It's a great workout

Surfing is a great cardio workout, and there is actually an Apple Watch setting for surfing, so you can track your heart rate and more. Overall, wake surfing is great for you mentally, physically, and emotionally. I highly suggest that everyone try it at least once in their lifetime.

What is the only type of boat you should wakesurf behind? ›

So what type of boat can you wakesurf behind? Inboard boats are the safest and most logical choice. Inboard-powered boats position the propeller below the hull and well forward of the transom where it is safely out of a surfer's reach.

What is the difference between wakesurf boards? ›

SURF STYLE SHAPES

Counter to skim shapes, surf style wakesurf boards typically have thicker profiles, wide or shaped tails, and larger fins. The thicker profile, or higher volume, of a surf style wakesurf board creates more buoyancy allowing the board to float higher on the water.

What is the difference between wake surf and wake board? ›

The technique is what differentiates wakeboarding and wakesurfing. While wakeboarding, the user holds a boat-towed rope throughout the duration of the ride. In wakesurfing, the user releases the rope to ride out a wake.

How do I choose my first wakeboard? ›

If you're just starting out, a good beginner wakeboard is matched to the rider's weight and height, has the right rocker, fins and shape and has a binding setup that's both stable and comfortable.

Can you use a normal surfboard for wakesurfing? ›

Wake surfing however can be learned on a very small surfboard. This is because the rider uses a ski rope to get up on the surfboard. Once up the rider can let go of the rope and surf the wake that the boat creates.
