[Xbox] Summer Showcase 2024! Gears, Perfect Dark, FS2024, Starfield DLC and Black Ops 6! - Page 32 (2024)

Alright, there is really a whole lot to unpack with this showcase.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: I've actually been getting into COD campaigns recently. But since I don't touch the other modes, and the games are so short, I only get them when they're cheap or free. And since a whole month is more than enough time to blow through the campaign, Black Ops 6 is effectively $11 for me. So I guess I'll be playing that on Series S.

DOOM: The Dark Ages: I'm kinda late to the New-DOOM party, so I still have Eternal to hold me over. I am curious, since by the time this game launches in 2025, the Switch 2 should be at least announced if not already out, if Panic Button will do a down-port.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard: I know the reaction to this one has been overwhelmingly negative, and Bioware isn't the hitmaker they once were. However, I never got into the previous Dragon Age games, despite loving Mass Effect, so a departure from previous games would actually be a plus in my book. And I love a good redemption story, so I kinda hope Bioware turns it around. Still, that trailer didn't really show any gameplay that I noticed, so this one is still a big question mark.

Clair Obscur: Expidition 33: Is this basically a turn-based JRPG without all the anime? This has potential to be a nice change of pace in the genre.

South of Midnight: Looks interesting, but only if they nail the combat.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: I love love love MGS3. Using the original voicework is iconic (and way way cheaper), but since it pre-dates performance capture in games, the facial animations aren't on the level we're used to. The real question is will the game be rebalanced for the improved player controls. The difficulty of Twin Snakes was made trivial by Snake having his MGS2 moves.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn: I feel like this game has been TBA forever, so it suddenly being next month is wild. I think it looks like it has a lot of potential.

Perfect Dark: I have no attachments to the original PD, so judging it entirely on this trailer, it looks like a combination of several things that are all 100% my jam. Mirror's Edge style parkour, using stealth and trickery, Splinter Cell Conviction/Blacklist style group takedowns. If they can deliver on the promise of this trailer, this could be one of my most anticipated titles.

Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred: I feel like Diablo III came out to tons of hate from Diablo fans, but after a bajillion updates, it became beloved. I'm watching this one from a distance to see if it eventually repeats.

Fable: I feel like we still haven't gotten a good look at the gameplay on this. Plenty of in-engine cutscenes and conversations, and a little walking animation. This is from a new studio reviving an IP with an ... uneven track record. Gonna need to see a lot more to form any real opinion on it.

Mixtape: If this is basically "Life is Strange: 90s Nostalgia Edition", I'm ... kind of on board?

Life is Strange: Double Exposure: Honestly pretty hyped for this. The other LiS games have been alright, but Max had the best story and the best powers.

Indiana Jones & the Great Circle: I trust MachineGames to make something fun. I hope they pull it off.

Wuchang: Fallen Leaves: Looks cool, but like South of Midnight, it depends on if they nail the combat.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: I've never played this series before, but this trailer has me curious.

New Xboxes: More options are nice, but what the f*ck is with these prices? You only save $50 dropping the disc drive from the X? With PS5 having the discless version at a $100 less, that's a bad look.

Gears of War: E-Day: So it's my understanding that we've got an MGS2 to MGS3 situation, where they basically didn't like the corner they wrote themselves into and kicked the can down the road by making a prequel? Honestly, the stories in Gears games go in one ear and out the other for me, so I pretty much forget them by the time the credits are done rolling. Then I have no clear idea what's going on when I play the next one. So a new game without any story baggage would be nice.
